06.14.23 Important Info to Take You into the 1st Half of Summer Recess

June 14, 2023

Good Morning Upper School (US) Families,

I hope that while you’re reading this, your Upper Schooler is enjoying the first of many opportunities to sleep in. The summer is such an important break for all of us, and especially the students who have spent the past nine months doing work they could be proud of and contributing in innumerable ways to this wonderful community. To say that we are proud of them would be an understatement. To that end, please join the D-E adults in encouraging students to take real time for themselves this summer; to rest, to restore, and to prepare for the year ahead (eventually! Let them sleep!).

While you’ll receive a message from me at the end of July with a variety of updates, you won’t hear from me much before then. With that in mind, here is some important information to take you into the first half of the summer recess:
  • Please be sure to review the Summer Reading assignments for each grade. For the Summer Reading 2023 list (PDF), please click here. (The Summer Reading 2023 list is also posted online, on our Upper School page.)
  • Final grades are due from teachers tomorrow, Thursday, June 15, and will be posted for students and families to review early next week.
  • Grade Deans will be on campus and readily available through Thursday, June 22. We appreciate your patience while waiting for responses from these folks  between June 22 and their return to campus on Monday, August 21. If you need something urgently during that period, please reach out to me directly.
  • We will be welcoming several new members of our faculty come September. We are excited to be joined by these experienced and talented educators and can’t wait for you all to meet them, too!
    • Stephanie Tucker – Grade Dean, Class of 2027 & English Department
    • Stephen Bailey – English Department
    • Felisa Lerum – Science Department
    • Richard Wright – Health & Wellness Department
    • Kofi Donnelly – Science Department
    • Caitie Miller – Performing Arts Department, Technical Director
Thank you all for your support, enthusiasm, and community-spirit this year.  I hope that you get a chance to rest and restore this summer as well. See you in just a few months!

Best,
Kim Lalli
US Principal
